Dustin Johnson said on Tuesday that
he had joined several other golfers and immediately resigned from the effective PGA Tour.
Johnson, who has been a member of the PGA Tour since 2008, made the announcement at the opening press conference of the first LIV golf event at Centurion Golf Club.
"Right now, I'm leaving my tour membership and I'm going to play [LIV] for now," Johnson said. "That's the plan."
Johnson said he had carefully considered the decision over the past six months and felt it was the right one.
"At the time, I was committed to playing the PGA Tour," Johnson said. “I am very grateful for the PGA Tour and everything it has done for me.
