Samaritan was filmed in Atlanta, the capital of the state of Georgia. MGM bought the script and attached Stallone's Balboa Productions to co-produce the feature.

With Stallone starring, Julius Avery came on board to direct the following September. The rest of the cast arrived in February 2020, including Michael Aaron Milligan, Jared Odrick, Javon Walton, Pilo Asbayk, Dasha Polanco, Moises Arias, and Martin Starr.

The film's production in Atlanta was delayed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, and shooting dates from February 2020 to October of that year were halted.

Avery's film had three release dates and numerous pushbacks. The first was on November 20, 2020 It was then returned on December 11, 2020

Finally, it was made ahead of a big summer release on June 4th, 2021. However, since Amazon Studios bought MGM, they set the film to release on August 26, 2022.
